Why we built it
Password managers are essential, everyday software. Our problem was that even the reputable ones seemed to be selling out. Pricing shifted to subscription-only and kept climbing, with upsells and add-ons piled on top of a tool that used to just work. Requiring an account and a live internet connection to unlock a desktop app stopped feeling like a feature and started feeling like a signal — that security and privacy weren't the priority anymore.
None of that made the product better. It just made it more profitable for someone else.
Buddy is what we built instead. A vault that lives on your device, priced once, and maintained because we use it ourselves every day. Simple, reliable, no bloat.
What we stand for

No subscriptions
One purchase, yours for good. Software you paid for shouldn't stop working when a subscription lapses.
Secure by default

No tracking
The app checks in with our servers only to verify your license and look for updates. No usage data, no analytics, no tracking — nothing about your vault, your entries, or how you use the app ever leaves your device. This website keeps a cookieless visitor count and nothing more; the privacy policy spells out exactly how.
Independent by design
Buddy is independently funded. No venture capital means no pressure to harvest data, bolt on an enterprise sales motion, or chase growth at the expense of the people who actually use the product. Our incentives are simple: build something worth paying for and support it well. Even with zero future revenue, we're bootstrapped to run until 2031.
We're a small team, and we treat that as a feature. The people who write the code read the support mail and the feature requests. When you reach out, you're talking to someone who can actually change how Buddy works.
