A complete password manager for macOS and Windows.
Every screen below is the shipping app, running on a desktop, storing its vault on that same machine. Nothing here is a roadmap item unless it says so.
Custom fields & sections
Most password managers make you pick a predefined entry type: login, credit card, database, identity, email, server, address. The list never ends, and the one you want is never on it.
Buddy lets you compose an entry instead, from three pieces:
- Custom fields hold whatever you need: text, notes, secrets, secret notes, and encrypted file attachments.
- Sections group related fields, so a router's admin login, its wifi password and the ISP account number live in one record instead of three.
- Field roles unlock richer editing and autofill: username with suggestions from your other entries, password with the generator attached, two-factor from a URI, file or screen capture, and tags.
Browser autofill
Never leave your browser
Buddy's extensions for Chrome and Firefox talk to the desktop app on your machine over a local channel, so the browser never holds a vault of its own. Open a site, click the matching login, and it's filled. Sign up somewhere new and the extension offers to save the login before you leave the page. Next visit, it's one click.
The extension is in final testing and is not in the browser stores yet. It ships as a free update. Details here.
Two-factor codes
Your 2FA codes, next to the logins they unlock.
Buddy generates TOTP codes itself, so you stop juggling a separate authenticator app. Codes tick down right inside the entry, ready to copy.
Adding one is the best part: when a website shows you a QR code, drag Buddy's capture window over it. The code is read off your screen and the secret is stored, encrypted, in the right entry. No phone camera involved.
Import & export
Switching takes minutes, not a weekend.
Export from 1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden, Dashlane, or Keeper, or pull the passwords saved in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Drop the file on Buddy and the format is detected automatically. Generic CSV works when all else fails, and the 1Password migration guide covers exactly which fields survive the trip.
The door swings both ways: export your entire vault, attachments included, whenever you want, and the published vault format means a copy of Buddy isn't required to read your own data.
Privacy
Your vault is a file on your disk. You control it.
Every entry is encrypted before it's written, and it never leaves your machine. The only things Buddy sends over the network are a license check and an update check. Nothing about your vault, and nothing about how you use the app.
