Feature tour

A complete password manager for macOS and Windows.

Everything you need — without the bloat.

Browser autofill

One click in the browser

Buddy's extensions for Chrome and Firefox talk directly to the desktop app on your machine locally. Open a site, click the matching login, and it's filled. Sign up somewhere new and the extension offers to save the login before you leave the page. Next visit, it's one click.

Two-factor codes

Your 2FA codes, next to the logins they unlock.

Buddy generates TOTP codes itself, so you stop juggling a separate authenticator app. Codes tick down right inside the entry, ready to copy.

Adding one is the best part: when a website shows you a QR code, drag Buddy's capture window over it. The code is read off your screen and the secret is stored, encrypted, in the right entry. No phone camera involved.

Import & export

Switching takes minutes, not a weekend.

Export from 1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden, or Keeper, or pull the passwords saved in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Drop the file on Buddy and the format is detected automatically. Generic CSV works when all else fails.

The door swings both ways: export your entire vault, attachments included, whenever you want. We compete on the product, not on lock-in.

More than logins

One vault for everything you'd rather not lose.

Payment cards with proper field masking. SSH keys. Secure notes. Encrypted file attachments for the passport scan and the recovery codes, stored inside the vault with everything else.

When the built-in types don't fit, build your own: custom field group templates with exactly the fields you need, marked secret or plain, in the order you want them. Tag entries and filter by tag or type to keep a big vault navigable.

Password health

Strong passwords, and a nudge when one isn't.

The generator produces random passwords up to 64 characters, or memorable word-based ones you can actually type on a TV keyboard, with the entropy shown so you know what you're getting.

Buddy also flags weak passwords and warns when you've reused one across entries. Changed a password? The previous values are kept in a per-field history, so a botched rotation never locks you out.

Backups

Automatic backups, to a folder you pick.

Buddy backs your vault up on a schedule, encrypted, with retention limits you control. Point the backup folder at a location your cloud drive syncs and an encrypted copy quietly follows you off the machine, without Buddy ever touching the cloud itself.

Restoring is built in, and every backup is validated before it replaces anything.

Performance

Native speed, because it's actually native.

Buddy's core is written in Rust. It opens instantly, searches as fast as you type, and idles quietly in your tray without eating your battery or your RAM.

Keyboard shortcuts cover the daily motions, lock it with a keystroke, and light and dark themes follow your system.

Privacy

Your vault is a file on your disk. You control it.

Every entry is encrypted before it's written, and it never leaves your machine. The only things Buddy sends over the network are a license check and an update check — nothing about your vault, and nothing about how you use the app.
